Under a huge ombú, there is a nest of the Acromyrmex ambiguus species of cutting ants.
In the nests, under the surface, you can see the fungus they cultivate, and during the reproduction season, you can also see the larvae. The visitor has the chance to observe a symbiosis and the fungus mycelium.
The development of this ant’s nest was made possible, due to an agreement signed with the Entomology Department, School of Sciences, University of the Republic of Uruguay.
