The Ant’s Nest PDF Print E-mail

Under a huge ombú, there is a nest of the Acromyrmex ambiguus species of cutting ants.

In the nests, under the surface, you can see the fungus they cultivate, and during the reproduction season, you can also see the larvae. The visitor has the chance to observe a symbiosis and the fungus mycelium.

The development of this ant’s nest was made possible, due to an agreement signed with the Entomology Department, School of Sciences, University of the Republic of Uruguay.



 
Trip to Antarctica PDF Print E-mail

This exhibition recreates a trip to the Antarctic Continent, in which the visitor is informed about the activity fulfilled by Uruguay in Antarctica, the location of the Artigas Base, how to get there, the prevailing flora and the fauna, among other data.

Then visitors get on a plane where the take off to Punta Arenas and the landing in King George Island are simulated. Then the visitors get to Artigas Base, with an outside temperature of about -10ºC.

As last stop of the trip, the visitor is sheltered in a wannigan, a place where scientists live and there they are informed about the activities carried out there.
